DAYANAND SPORTS UNIVERSITY IN MEERUT, UTTAR PRADESH PRIME MINISTER MODI ESTABLISHES THE FOUNDATION STONE


Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for setting up the Major Dayanand Sports University at a cost of Rs 700 crore.

The University is located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh in memory of Major Dayanand, a famous hockey player.

Major Dayanand Chand was nominated for the highest sports award in the country. The present University of Sports in Meerut is dedicated to him. The Rs 700 crore university will provide international sports facilities to the youth.

India should become self-sufficient in the production of sports equipment. Emphasis has been placed on sports in the new education policy.The university is expected to train 1,080 athletes (540 males, 540 females) annually. World class modern facilities will be set up here. The university campus will also have a modern synthetic hockey field, football field, basketball, volleyball, handball fields and kabaddi field.

There will also be a tennis court, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a synthetic runway, a swimming pool, a multi-purpose complex and a cycling training ground. There will also be shooting, squash, gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, canoeing and kayaking boat training facilities.
