Cariappa (then Lieutenant General) taking over the position of First Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from the General.

·      Francis Roy Bucher, Last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949. The day is celebrated in parades and other military parades in the nation's capital, New Delhi. as well as at all headquarters.

·      On January 15, 2022, India celebrates the 74th Indian Army Day in New Delhi. Army Day marks a day to celebrate the heroic soldiers who gave their lives to protect the country and its citizens. As celebrations take place across the country, the main Army Day parade takes place at the Cariappa Parade in Cantonment Delhi.

·      Courage Awards and Sena Medals are also awarded on this day. In 2020, 15 soldiers received bravery awards. Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra winners participate in the annual Army Day Parade Military equipment, multiple backup equipment and combat demonstrations are part of the parade.

·      In 2020, Captain Tania Shergill became the first female officer to lead the Army Day parade.
